Working together through tough and good times

The recent year end floods were devastating and affected many Malaysians. As fellow citizens, it was heartwarming to see many of us coming out to help relieve the burden faced by those impacted by the floods whether it was monetary assistance or just a helping hand in cleaning up.

For one of our retailers - Syarikat Swee Lee Trading Sdn Bhd in Mentakab, Pahang; the floods dealt them a cruel blow. It was not once but twice that their station was affected by the floods in 2021 - in January and again in December.

Miss Yap when asked about the floods said “19th December 2021 will always be the day etched in my memory for that is when our service station was flooded about 9 feet deep. Personally, it was heartbreaking for me to see the state of my service station. Nonetheless, we are truly grateful for the continued support from our partners Sutera Matra Sdn Bhd, Flowco, Strateq and Chevron who worked hard to get our station operating by 30 December 2021”.

Even three of Ms. Yap’s staff still showed up in their uniforms to help clean the station despite their own homes being submerged. She added ”Wanie and Ellysa, my RBCs arranged for financial assistance of RM2,000 each for my staff”. Sutera Matra was also quick to arrange 150 bags of milk powder and diapers to be distributed to flood victims within Caltex Mentakab’s trading area.

Ms. Yap shared that she is touched and grateful by the donation of RM11,400 from retailers within the Sutera Matra network that were subsequently used to purchase items such as cabinets and electrical items for her 3 staff. Even with all the adversity, Ms Yap said “The floods brought us together and we are so thankful for our partners for being there for us.”

To all who helped support the re-opening of the station as well as those who generously donated, you truly embody the spirit of unity, kindness and love. Kudos!
