Congratulations Milon from Alfapen Sdn Bhd! WIRA CALTEX winner for Quarter 2, 2022

The inaugural WIRA CALTEX campaign ran from April - June 2022. We thank all the participants for being part of the campaign.

In a recent prize giving ceremony, we had Mr Richard Tang, Fuels Retail Manager - Malaysia to present Milon Mehedi his 1st prize. After the prize presentation, we caught up with Retail Partner - Mr. Hor Kam Wah and our winner - Milon Mehedi to share their thoughts.

Interview with Mr. Hor Kam Wah, Retail Partner, Alfapen Sdn Bhd

1. What is your opinion of the WIRA CALTEX campaign? How do you feel it helps you as a Retail Partner?

WIRA CALTEX is very user friendly and easy for station staff to participate. It’s a great tool for the station staff to learn and be reminded about what they need for their work at the station. Getting rewarded by Chevron is a wonderful endorsement of the hard work put in and a morale booster for the staff.

As a Retail Partner, the WIRA CALTEX campaign provides additional incentive to the staff and that increases staff retention. A happier and well-informed frontliner gives better service to our customers.

2. You have 2 winners (the 1st and 3rd prize) coming from Alfapen from this WIRA CALTEX campaign, how do you feel?

We are very proud and happy that our staff is able to achieve that. I would also like to thank the Station Manager for encouraging the staff to regularly go online to participate.

3. What changes have you seen with your staff after their participation in WIRA CALTEX?

The staff come across as more confident about their work and we even received feedback from customers about the better service level as they feel the staff are more approachable and friendly.

4. What is your advice to other Retail Partners and Station Managers on how to use WIRA CALTEX for the benefit of their station and business?

In the long run I feel WIRA CALTEX will improve staff retention and such loyal staff will help create more happy and “returning” customers for the station. Loyal customers means increased value and revenue to the station too.

High staff retention helps reduce station cost immediately as we don’t need to keep getting new uniforms for each new staff that joins the station. There’s also no need to continuously train new staff as it takes time for them to understand what to do correctly at the forecourt. In the long term, loyal staff will lessen our stress as an operator as they reduce our operational risk exposure. A simple example is having a new staff accidentally pumping wrong fuel into a customer’s vehicle.

So YES, it definitely makes business sense to get the staff to participate in WIRA CALTEX as there’s no cost to the station too.

Interview with Mr. Milon Mehedi, 1st Prize Winner

1. How does it feel being the 1st winner for WIRA CALTEX?

I feel very happy. A total surprise to me and I could not believe I had become the WIRA CALTEX winner as there are so many Caltex stations with a large number of staff in Malaysia.

2. How did you remind yourself to come online regularly to answer?

After registering for WIRA CALTEX, I tried to go to the WIRA CALTEX website daily to answer the questions. Today this has become like a habit for me to go to the website daily.

3. What happens when you don’t know the answer to a question? What do you do?

The questions were at times not easy to understand. Thankfully I have very helpful colleagues who would explain the question to me so that I could answer the questions.

4. What is your advice to other station staff who have not registered or have not participated?

I encourage everyone to participate in WIRA CALTEX because even if you don't win, you will still learn something useful.

5. Do you think you have a good chance to win again in Quarter 3?

I don’t know if I will be the winner. However I definitely will try my best.
