Caltex Network Grows Despite A Challenging Year
Even as Malaysia continued to grapple with the many challenges in 2021, the Caltex station network sustained its growth as its experienced Retail Partners and new investors saw business opportunities in this area and hence decided to invest in these new stations.
With that, Chevron would like to extend our gratitude towards all our investors and partners. This trust in the Caltex brand is what gives all of us at Chevron the motivation to strive harder to make things happen for you, our Retail Partners.

Given the success of the new stations, at press time Chevron is targeting to launch an additional four stations for the fourth quarter of 2021. Opening a new station is never easy, what more during the COVID-19 lockdown period – the challenges that arose had certainly tested the will and patience of Retailers and Branded Marketers alike, but they persevered.
To get some insight on this experience, we had a chat with En Abu Hassan bin Seeni Abdul from Branded Marketer Trivenus Sdn Bhd, who shared how the opening of Prestige Haus Station back in May was especially challenging.
The station’s strategic location on the main road from Kuala Pilah towards Bahau may be great for business during normal times but the lockdown meant that people were simply not travelling, thus hitting fuel sales badly. Nevertheless, our determined new Retailer, En Wan Mokhtar Wan Ismail, took proactive steps to push for sales by:
- Signing up new Starcard accounts;
- Giving discounts to business accounts; and
- Giving free goodies to customers
The Trivenus team also played their part by working very closely with the Retailer and even obtained the necessary authorisation letters from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) during the lockdown to guide and support En Wan Mokhtar.
On Trivenus’ outlook for 2022, En Hassan remains positive and optimistic as the COVID-19 infection numbers have decreased and started to stabilise. People are starting to travel again and businesses and the economy are starting to pick up. In fact, Trivenus has noticed an increase in fuel sales from October onwards, which is encouraging.
It’s safe to say that the challenges of this year have not daunted En Hassan, as he will be opening up two more stations in Terengganu – one in Paka and the other in Kijal – sometime in the second half of 2022. As of now, the stations are only about 50% completed due to construction being halted during the lockdown period.
This year’s Malaysia Day also marked another significant milestone as Chevron launched its first station in the Federal Territory of Putrajaya, which also happens to be the first ever orang kurang upaya (OKU)-friendly Caltex station in Malaysia.
There will be more new and exciting launches next year, this time in the non-fuel retail (NFR) area where Chevron will be launching the first Family Mart drive-through in partnership with Caltex. This comes after the success of other NFR stores within the Caltex network, namely the first Pizza Hut store at Caltex Setia Alam (Successfuel Sdn Bhd) which opened its doors in August 2020, and the first nasi kandar drive-through at Caltex Sg Dua Highway – Southbound (MZ Cekap Sdn Bhd) which opened in December 2020.
All these successes are the result of the hard work of the New Business Acquisition (NBA) team as well as those who were directly involved in the openings. Congratulations, team! Your perseverance, dedication and never-quit attitude made it all possible. Also, a big thank you to all our new retailers who have come in at such challenging times – remember to stay focused, stay bullish, and we will ride this out together.
We look forward to all the interesting new stations and NFR projects that are currently in progress and we hope that you are excited about it too. Even as we rapidly approach 2022, we are making plans to ensure all of you will be able to easily stay updated on the latest news regarding these projects, so stay tuned!
